Women's Worlds 2011 Call for Participation in Regional Networks
You may know that Women's Worlds 2011 (WW 2011) is a congress taking place in Ottawa-Gatineau in July 2011 -- the largest gathering of women from around the world in Canadian history.
This announcement kicks off the selection process for regional network meetings happening in February and March across Canada as part of the 'Women Build Up To the Congress' project affiliated with WW 2011.
If you are involved with a women's organization in the region (or with a more informal network of women), are able to pass along learnings/info to your local communities, and are interested in being considered to attend your regional network meeting, READ ON.
Six regional networks are being created to:
- raise the profile and generate interest in the Women's Worlds 2011 congress
- reconnect women's groups in the region with each other
- encourage skills-sharing and knowledge transfer
- help build the capacity of women and women's groups in the region, both in general and towards the congress
The six regions are: BC/Yukon; Prairies; Ontario; Quebec; Atlantic; North and the regional network meetings are being held between now and the end of March 2010.
Regional network meeting participants will:
- strategize about growing the regional network
- learn innovative ideas for fundraising and creating intergenerational spaces
- identify issues and challenges in common to women in your region
- develop an action plan that outlines how the region will connect and participate in WW 2011

As a multi year participant in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women NGO delegation from Canada, I am particulaly interested in this upcoming event. Much of my work at the UNCSW has been with women of a wide variety of cultures, races and countries. Canada does not always look as good as it could to some of these colleagues.
My professional work in Human Rights has sharpened my concern about the growing poverty within Canada of women and children. Political decisions in many cases have eroded the supports which should be available to all of our citizens. I am convinced that we can do better politically, socially and as a wide, inclusive community. Please count me in on your plans for Women's Worlds 2011.
